Things to do in Meikleour, Perth and the Perthshire region

Meikleour itself is a beautiful little village with a popular restaurant and pub (which serves food) only a short stroll away.  The village is also home to a beech hedge that has been formally recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the tallest and longest hedge in the world, stretching 500m and towering at over 30m high.  Not far from the village are some of Perthshire's famed woodlands, ideal for dog walks, including the stunning Kinklaven Bluebell Wood  (formerly Ballathie Bluebell Wood) which not only offers spectacular flora but also lots of wildlife, including stoats, deer and the very rare red squirrel.  Also nearby is the famed River Tay, which not only offers scenic views but is also one of the best salmon fishing sites in Scotland with exceptional Scottish game and coarse fishing guides available.  If you're a golfing fan, there's the esteemed Rosemount Blairgowrie Golf Club nearby and if you're a history buff, the village of Dunkeld has plenty to offer, including Dunkeld Cathedral, Thomas Telford's Dunkeld Bridge and a row of now restored 18th century properties courtesy of the National Trust of Scotland.

With so much to do in the local area, you can tailor your break to be exactly what you want it to be! If you fancy something thrilling, why not try clay pigeon shooting or archery at County Clays in Dunkeld? Maybe vehicles are your thing, if so you could visit Highland Offroad or Scotland Landrover Experience. Adventure activities perfect for families and groups are available through Nae Limits or if you'd rather sit back, relax and enjoy a show you could visit the Pitlochry Festival Theatre.

Venturing further North, we have some fantastic shopping in the area and can recommend The House of Bruar for traditional Scottish clothing and visitor experience. Iain Burnett: The Highland Chocolatier provides gourmet chocolates and gifts, during the day you can stop off for lunch or afternoon tea at The Walkin' Cafe. In the evening there are many options for a delicious evening meal, including, Uisge Bar & Restaurant or The Meikleour Arms which is just a short walk from the property.

If you want to make the most of exploring the area and being outdoors, we can also highly recommend The Enchanted Forest, The Hermitage, Pitlochry Dam, and Blair Castle.

And then there's the city of Perth, with its museum and art gallery, theatre and - of course - Scone Palace, which was once honoured with a visit from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.  And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
